In a press release from earlier today, Kia Motors America announced that the 2017 Kia Sedona minivan is the most recent Kia vehicle to earn a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2017 Sedona earned the institute's highest "plus" rating thanks to a new available Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system which helps avoid forward accidents by alerting the driver to an impending forward collision. It can even apply the brakes if no action is taken. A score of "advanced" or "superior" for front crash prevention is required to earn a TSP+ rating. Sedona's AEB earned the "superior" rating. Additionally, Sedona earned the highest rating of "good" for all five IIHS crashworthiness assessments.

Other available advanced driver assistance and safety features include Blind-Spot Detection (BSD) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning (LDWS), and Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

“Buyers often place safety at the top of their list when shopping for a new minivan,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning KMA. “The IIHS is a highly respected safety authority and we see the 2017 Sedona’s TSP+ rating as validation of Kia’s dedication to its customers and to the continuous efforts to build better and safer vehicles.”
